Sadness on the shore

There’s sadness on the shore,
a sense of ending,
a yawning view I turn my back to,
thoughts gaping like a fish in air,
cling to flimsy rocks exposed
at the face, as it breaks, as it breaks, bruised and crumbles,
stumbles, dropping me
down
down,
caught
in a wave without board or buoy,
the face turns
away
away.
