Nature’s grace

A welcome walk at lunchtime,
same route and time each day,
escorted by surprises
from land, and tree, and sky.

A strange new knot upon that tree
flits and flashes red,
inviting, not a warning – stop
a while, I’ll sing for you.

Sleek grey waves of dolphin dives,
a jump and jump and – stop.
I pose as if another tree, but
no squirrel has ever climbed up me!

Downy clouds go floating by
upon the stream while preening
feathers into rightful place, while I
fight wind-whipped hair from my face!

Nature’s grace I lack, but duly prize
every working day, at lunchtime.
