Butterfly heart

You brought summer in your face
I’d flirt in summer’s show
Darting pleasures from your eyes
Twinkling pools with sparks of sun
Igniting my butterfly heart

Dismal winter’s state would seek
to halt my winged heart
Trees washed bare in steely rain
Gnarled eyes to frighten,
Roots to snare me,
Swords unsheathed that would impale me

Would stun my heart to chrysalis
Were not for your summer face
imprinted
As the sun from seconds glanced
On eyes warmed with August’s nectar
To nourish my butterfly heart.
